New Institutional Conflict of Interest Policy at Emory

Emory has a new Institutional Conflict of Interest Policy for Human Subject Research. The policy is required for re-accreditation of the Emory Institutional Review Board by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs. Joint Winship Cancer Institute/ACTSI Translational Research Grant Program-Due June 30

To further promote the goals of Winship and the ACTSI, resources are being pooled to provide support for novel medical device, diagnostic or imaging technologies that substantially enhance the diagnosis or treatment of cancer. Outcomes required to achieve this goal include follow-on funding, inventions, patent applications, licenses, and commercial products. At least one PI must be a member of Winship. The other PI must be permanent faculty in the professorial ranks (assistant, associate, or full) from Emory, MSM or GA Tech. Read more…

Go Viral to Improve Health: IOM-NAE Health Data Collegiate Challenge-Deadline April 27

The IOM and NAE have posted the Go Viral to Improve Health: IOM-NAE Health Data Collegiate Challenge to spur students to transform health data into effective, innovative new apps to engage people in various communities to promote action to improve health and healthcare. The challenge calls on students pursuing degrees in engineering, computer science, and health disciplines to work in interdisciplinary teams to transform health data into new mobile apps, online tools or games, or other innovative products that can improve health at the community level. Request for Applications: Emory Medical Students MD/MSCR Dual Degree - Due March 15

The Research Education, Training and Career Development (RETCD) Program of the ACTSI is accepting applications for a clinical and translational research training opportunity for Emory Medical Students interested in careers in clinical and/or translational research.  This dual degree track leads to a joint Emory MD/MSCR (Master of Science in Clinical Research) degree and is designed to prepare physician-scientists for patient-oriented medical research.  For more details, click here.

Summer Institute on Mobile Health-Applications Due Thursday

The NIH announces the first NIH mHealth (mobile health) Summer Institute for the summer 2011, this week-long workshop will bring together leaders in mobile health technologies, behavioral science researchers, federal health officials and members of the medical community to provide early career investigators with an opportunity to learn about mHealth research. The NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research has partnered with Qualcomm, a developer of wireless technologies, to co-sponsor the course. Read more…

Writing and Revising Articles for Science Journals: A Panel Discussion-March 24

The workshop is hosted by the Emory Author Development Program in the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence and will give insider tips and perspective on writing for science journals. The workshop will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Room 2001 of the Claudia Nance Rollins Building. A panel of Emory researchers from the School of Nursing, School of Medicine and College of Arts and Sciences who have served as editors of science journals will discuss common mistakes researchers make when submitting to journals, features that distinguish articles that get past the first round of scrutiny and effective use of feedback from peer reviewers.
