Multi-Investigator Research Seed Grants-LOI Due February 25

The Winship Cancer Institute announces its inaugural Multi-Investigator Seed Grant. Three $50,000 grants will be awarded this spring to further enrich the Winship environment of collaboration and team science. The announcement invites proposals from two or more Winship investigators from two or more Winship scientific research programs to address an important aspect of cancer research. Applications can propose projects related to cancer biology, cancer genomics, causation, prevention, detection or screening, treatment or cure. NSF Grants for Catalyzing New International Collaborations-Due March 1

Support of international activities is an integral part of NSF's mission to sustain and strengthen the nation's science, mathematics, and engineering capabilities. This solicitation offers support for the initial phases of an international collaboration with the strong expectation that the next phase will involve submission of a follow-up proposal for continued funding of the collaborative research. Activities can be in any field of science and engineering research and education. Frontiers in Graduate Pharmacology Research Symposium-March 11

The event, hosted by the Molecular and Systems Pharmacology (MSP) program of the Graduate Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, will feature poster and oral presentations by graduate students in MSP faculty labs. In addition, the symposium will feature a keynote address by world-renowned neuroscientist Solomon H. Snyder, Distinguished Service Professor of Neuroscience, Pharmacology, and Psychiatry of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Read more… 

SOM Presents: Women First!-March 23

An inaugural Women’s History Month program, honoring the accomplishments of Emory School of Medicine-associated women and ACTSI investigators who were the first in their field. The event features Dr. Linda Cendales and Dr. Nanette Wenger on March 23 at 1:15 p.m. in SOM 110 (1648 Pierce Drive NE). Dr. Cendales helped organize the team that performed the first U.S. hand transplant in 1999; is a pioneer in Vascularized Composite Allotranplantaion (VCA), the transplantation of limbs and other body parts; and is the only surgeon in the U.S. formally trained in hand, microsurgery, and transplantation. Dr. Wenger is one of the first to study heart disease in women. She was one of Time magazine's "Women of the Year" in 1976 and she was appointed chief of cardiology in 1998.

ACTSI Clinical Informatics Fellowship-Due February 24

The Emory Center for Comprehensive Informatics (CCI) and the ACTSI are seeking applications from junior faculty in clinical departments for the ACTSI Clinical Informatics Fellowship. The fellowship will provide preceptored training support in Clinical Informatics. We are seeking fellow candidates with a demonstrated interest in Clinical Informatics. Candidates who are already playing an Informatics role (formal or informal) in their area of clinical expertise or in healthcare quality are encouraged to apply. Read more…

Translational Scholar Career Awards in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine (K23) - Due February 12

The purpose of this Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) is to provide salary and “protected time” (up to five years for this award) to support the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research.  The Translational Scholar Awards in Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine program is intended to address the scarcity of investigators cross-trained in both clinical research core competencies and modern methods required to address pharmacogenomics research problems in patient populations.  Dual mentors from the Clinical and Translational Science Awards consortium and the Pharmacogenomics Research Network are required. Studio Consultations: Biostatistics, Biomedical Informatics, and Proposal Support

The ACTSI is pleased to announce a new resource for investigators called Studio Consultations to aid in the successful design and implementation of clinical and translational science research proposals. The Studio Consultation concept involves a clinical investigator presenting their proposals to representatives of ACTSI’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology, & Research Design (BERD) program, Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP), and Clinical Interaction Network (CIN) who in turn will give the investigator their expert feedback. Emory, MSM, GA Tech, and VA: Electronic Biomedical Interactive Resource Tool (eBIRT)

The electronic Biomedical Interactive Resource Tool (eBIRT) is a web-based application used for research resource discovery.  For researchers, eBIRT serves as a “one-stop virtual shop” for research resources, such as laboratory services, equipment, software, consultation services, training opportunities, and more.  For resource providers, such as service centers and cores, eBIRT offers a platform to advertise research-related services and products.  If you have resources and would like to make them more discoverable to the scientific community, or if you would like more information about eBIRT, please write to: ebirt_support@emory.edu.
