Emory/Children's Hospital of Atlanta Staff Share Their Success Stories
The Immune Tolerance Network and NIAID featured the Emory/Children's Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA) Type 1 diabetes clinical trials team in this month's study newsletter. This critically important research will help cure Type 1 diabetes, and the team in Atlanta will be an integral part of the work. In the few months the site has been open, the Emory/CHOA team has been a participant recruiting powerhouse. Investigator Mark Rigby, MD, PhD, FAAP, assistant professor, Departments of Pediatrics and Surgery, Emory SOM, CHOA at Egleston, attributes much of their success to his dedicated staff, their Atlanta location, and the support of the ACTSI. “We could not be doing this without the ACTSI’s Emory Clinical Interaction Site, “said Dr. Rigby. “We hope to continue our efforts in such trials for a long time and to have a long a fruitful relationship with the ACTSI.” Their recruitment approach is multi-faceted. They have held conferences, in-services, and Lunch & Learns with many local adult and pediatric endocrinology physicians and nurses (both in- and out-patient) and have worked closely with hospital-based diabetes nurse educators to have, as part of patient's initial education material, information about all of our diabetes clinical trial opportunities.
