Blumenthal appeared on CNN January 25. Dr. Blumenthal addressed the issue of septicemia - an infection of the blood - that caused the recent amputations of the hands and feet of 20-year-old Brazilian model Mariana Bridi da Costa, former Miss World Brazil in 2006 and 2007.
