Planning for the Future of Regenerative Medicine in Atlanta RFA

This new program is the result of a partnership between Georgia Tech and ACTSI and will be managed by Ravi Bellamkonda and Bob Taylor of Georgia Tech and by Rob Taylor from Emory University. Robert M. Nerem, Ph.D., Professor & Director, Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering & Bioscience of Georgia Tech, says, Ravi Bellamkonda was front and center in developing this initiative; however, many others have also contributed. I view this as an exciting new initiative for Georgia Tech, a major step forward as we move beyond National Science Foundation funding. I hope that each of you will begin to think about ideas that might be developed through this planning grant program. Please see the Request for Applications for more information.

Exercise is Medicine Symposium scheduled for October 2nd

Thomas R. Ziegler, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipids Director and Emory Center for Clinical and Molecular Nutrition Co-Program Director will host this symposium after discovering significant expertise and resources for exercise-related research collaborations within the ACTSI and Georgia State University. Dr. Ziegler writes, With the new NDS software we are obtaining for food record analysis, the ACTSI will have enhanced capabilities for nutrient intake analysis, which is a key component of exercise-related research. We are envisioning this initial symposium to be one primarily for introduction and brainstorming, with the ultimate goal of developing new multidisciplinary, multi-institutional collaborations supported by the ACTSI.

Those interested in participating or attending should contact Jennifer Frediani MS, RD, LD, ACSM Exercise Specialist® certified, Bionutrition Research Director, ACTSI Clinical Interaction Network program at 404-712-7239 or jennifer.frediani@emory.edu

Grants Research Guide

Carlos del Rio, M.D. of the Emory University Department of Medicine, Infectious Diseases, let us know about a Grants Research Guide on the Emory University library web-site that provides useful information and resources for grants. Dr. del Rio says the links to other Internet Resources for grants are especially useful and may be helpful for fellows and junior faculty.
