CIN Investigator Named Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator Emory University neuroscientist Kerry Ressler, MD, PhD, was recently named one of 15 new Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigators - considered by HHMI to be the nation's top physician-scientists who will ensure basic research discoveries are translated into improved treatments for patients. Dr. Ressler is a researcher at Emory University's Yerkes National Primate Research Center, an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Emory University School of Medicine and an ACTSI Investigator doing his clinical research at the Grady Memorial Hospital CIN site. He is the first practicing psychiatrist to be appointed an HHMI investigator.
Collexis and Social Networking Users
Calling All Collexis and Social Networking Users The CCOC Operations Group identified Collexis users and Social Networking tools users as two groups who might usefully build their own communities within the CTSA program. To start this process a wiki space has been created for Special Interest Groups.
PCORE Grants Pay for Development
Emory professional staff and junior tenure track faculty of color can apply for a limited number of grants of up to $750 each. The annual grants are available from the President's Commission on Race and Ethnicity through its Professional Development Fund. Supplement Awarded
ACTSI and USCF CTSI: Consortia for Rare Genetic Disorders The project, developed by the Rare Disease Workgroup of the CTSA Pediatric Oversight Committee, will focus on the expertise garnered from two pre-existing multi-site biobanks for two rare diseases, cystic fibrosis and sickle cell disease, as applied to two newly developing programs for SCID and Down syndrome. The key element will be to employ complementary experts from CTSAs in several areas: scientific leadership in clinical-translational research networks, biobanking, IT, data management, ethics and human subject protection, intellectual property, and parent/consumer perspectives as applied to research networks.
