Clinical and Translational Research Program for Pediatrics (CTRPP)

Program Mission

CTRPP's mission is to enhance the health of children through innovative research. An essential component of this mission is to support the development of new pediatric investigators who are prepared to conduct studies that will carry this mission forward into the future.

The Departments of Pediatrics (DOP) at Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Children's) are partners in providing care for children in Atlanta and in promoting excellence in research and teaching. The relationship between the two schools of medicine and Children's provides an unprecedented opportunity for growth and expansion in translational and clinical research in child health and disease. Therefore, the Clinical & Translational Research Program for Pediatrics (CTRPP) within the ACTSI supports and develops pediatric research.

The DOPs at Emory, MSM and Children's work with Georgia Institute of Technology, Yerkes National Primate Research Center and Kaiser Permanente-Georgia to develop an academic home for the conduct of pediatric clinical and translational research that effectively reaches the entire Atlanta pediatric community. The CTRPP provides a coherent and integrated program in pediatric clinical and translational research by enhancing specific elements in research infrastructure including designated inpatient and outpatient clinical interaction sites, integration between the Children's Office of Clinical Research and Institutional Review Boards, integrated clinical informatics, and support for pediatric-based community engagement programs. In addition, the CTRPP, working with the Research Education, Training & Career Development program, provides training, education, and the opportunity for establishing newly-trained clinical, translational pediatric investigators to meet the goal of rapidly translating available scientific discoveries to the community through hospital and community-based programs.

CTRPP is an integrated academic home for pediatric clinical and translational science in Atlanta. New collaborations, processes and facilities are created, and have initiated new studies that have important impact on the health of children. CTRPP is a prime example of the success possible when all major ACTSI academic and healthcare partners collaborate in a common program.
