Bionutrition Services

To effectively serve the CRN, the Bionutrition Unit at the Emory University CRS is staffed 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Metabolic Kitchen operates 6:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Bionutrition Unit, including Body Composition  and Exercise Lab, is available for investigators interested in conducting well-controlled human feeding studies, assessing body composition and conducting exercise tests on various populations. We are staffed by experienced technically skilled research nutritionist and exercise physiologist. Our unit consists of a full scale Metabolic Kitchen providing experimental research diets for both inpatient and outpatient studies.

The unit also provides support for protocol development, food compositing, food record analysis, dietary data management and technical support. The Body Composition Lab is available for objective determination of energy expenditure, body fat percentage, extracellular/intracellular fluid volume, and VO2 max and anaerobic threshold measurements. The suite is equipped with a Vmax Spectra 29 metabolic cart and Hydra ECF/ICF bioimpedance system. Anthropometry is available as well.

Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is available at the following sites: Emory Clinic, The Center for Health Discovery and Well Being (EUH Midtown), Morehouse School of Medicine, and Georgia Tech Applied Physiology Lab. Please contact Bionutrition Research Director for pricing.
