Bionutrition Services
To effectively serve the CIN, the Bionutrition Unit at the Emory University CIS is staffed 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Metabolic Kitchen operates 6:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Bionutrition Unit, including Body Composition Lab, is available for investigators interested in conducting well-controlled human feeding studies and assessing body composition. We are staffed by experienced technically skilled research nutritionists. Our unit consists of a full scale Metabolic Kitchen providing experimental research diets for both inpatient and outpatient studies.
We also provide support for protocol development, food compositing, food record analysis, dietary data management and technical support. Our Body Composition Lab is available for objective determination of energy expenditure, body density, and extracellular/intracellular fluid volume. The suite is equipped with a Vmax indirect calorimeter, BOD POD (Air Displacement Plethysmograph), and Hydra ECF/ICF bioimpedance system. Anthropometry is available as well.
